Strategy: Collaboration (Strategy 3) We will develop and implement plans to ensure all members of our vital partnership (staff, families, community members and organizations) are working collaboratively to help us achieve our mission.
Specific Result #2
Promote service learning in District 64 through authentic educational experiences, which will inspire students to become engaged learners in their community.
*Service learning is an educational practice that combines meaningful service to the community with curriculum-based learning.
Action Steps:
1. Establish a District 64 Service Learning Exploratory Committee.
2. Analyze relevant data from the focus groups in the Bridge Action Plan (Year 1)
3. Provide staff development opportunities on service learning to connect genuine community need with curricular objectives.
4. Invite a volunteer teacher team to integrate service learning opportunities into the school experience.
5. Publicize and highlight service learning opportunities through district and school newsletters and other forms of communication
6. Assess the impact of service learning experiences on students, the community, and the curriculum.
